History and Lineage

The Chinese Martial Arts School "Shaolin Kung-Fu the Dragon Dance" was inaugurated on the American Continent (Venezuela) on October 10th 1976 by its director Mr. Luis A. Chang. Chang, thanks to his vision, brought masters of great trajectory, such as Master Tai She Che (Dai She Che) and Master Fu Shun Nan, specialists in some of China's best and true Kung Fu (Wu-Shu) styles,

For over four decades, and thanks to the dedication and commitment of our masters and participating students, the Chinese Shaolin Kung-fu the Dragon Dance School of Chinese Martial Arts has achieved great respect and recognition nationally and internationally, through excellent results achieved in national, South American, Pan American and world competitions. The Director of "The Dragon Dance" in Caracas, Venezuela is Master Yunys, direct disciple of the masters.

In their practice spaces "The Dragon Dance" has been training excellent martial artists who have made Kung-Fu (Wu-Shu) part of their lives, creating useful men and women for our society. By contributing to their integral formation, by transmitting the value of respect for others, discipline, self-confidence, teaching how to control feelings of anger or wrath, our emotions and how to provide better concentration, which is indispensable in our life, academic or professional, by creating friendships that last over time.

Since 2003 "The Dragon Dance" also exists in Madeira Island, Portugal, in Porto da Cruz. Master Nelson directs this group, transmitting martial knowledge in its original form, preserving the masters' teaching in a pure way.

Biographies

Tai She Che / 戴士哲

Master Tai She Che, also known as Dai She Che, came from a family of a long martial art heritage, He was born in the year 1941. His training began at age 11 with his family elders who taught him styles of the Southern martial art system, including the Taizu, Crane, Younehan, and Dazhun styles. In 1964, some mestres and began his training in northern martial arts styles.

During this period, Master Tai devoted his life to learning Qixing Mantis, Liuhe Mantis, Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Sword, Chumyang Sword, and Xiaohua Saber from Grands Masters. Bagua, Pigwa, Mizong, Kunwu Sword, Baji Sword, Bagua Dagger, Double-axe and Liuhe Spear with. To further his study, Master Tai studied under Master at Hebel School Xingyi in 1973. From the southern martial art system to the northern martial art system, Master Tai is one of the few to have such depth and breadth in martial art training.

At the invitation of businessman Luis Chang, on September 25, 1975, master Tai She Che founded the first headquarters of the school "Shaolin Kung-Fu The Dragon Dance", along with master Su Yu Chang. Subsequently, on October 10, 1976, the headquarters officially open with a large demonstration of these two masters and 16 students who had prepared to begin the process of formation and dissemination of styles.

In 1993, the Chinese Cultural University invited Master Tai to teach Bagua Zhang at the school's Martial Arts Club. From the activities, he came to realize that there was a serious shortage of good instructors. 

In 1976, Master Tai officially admitted his first group of 10 disciples and several others in the following years. During the same period, Their initiative was answered with enthusiasm and the performance event at this conference is now expanded into an annual professional competition. Many of the notable martial art judges and athletes in the international arena today have developed from this event.

In 2010, Master Tai admitted 5 more disciples. Throughout his career in martial art education, he has admitted a total of 95 disciples, 43 from Venezuela and many of them are now renowned instructors around the world

The Master Tai has never forgotten to commemorate the deceased Great Master on special days. Master Tai leads by example and constantly reminds his disciples to honour themselves and respect each other.

Coincident or work of wonders, Master Tai seems to have a special connection to number 11. He was born in November and began his martial arts training when he was 11. He has had a career in stock trading for 11 years and has taught martial arts abroad for 11 years. Master Tai returned from Venezuela in 1987 after 11 years.

Fu Shun Nan /傅松南

He has other names how Fu Song Nan, the secund name and o Fu Jun Zheng 傅君正 him mean name. 

Born on July 16, 1935, in the Zhaoyuan District, Shandong Province, China.

It was at the age of 10 that he started his Wu Shu / Kung Fu training with his biological and martial father Fù Jiā Bīn /傅嘉賔, with whom he trained until he was 15 years old. This in turn learned from his biological father Fu Ming Sheng, with his father, master of martial arts, also graduated with masters Ding Zi Cheng / Ting Chi Cheng / 丁子成 (1879 - 1957) , expert in the style Liùhe Tang Lang Quan / 六合螳螂拳 祖藉 , Lin Chunlin / 林春林 and Chi Wan San 遲萬三 , both masters of Chang Quan.

With his father he trained hard, at first Tantui of 12 lines, then learned the Liùhequan form (Fist of the six harmonies),

In 1950 he was appointed disciple of Master Han Qintang, in the disciple-naming ceremony, usually called "Baishi". With this Master he learned Northern Shaolin from the Liùhemen lineage with its main characteristic, the strongest movements combined at certain times with some of softness. Master Han dominated several systems, the six harmonies of Shaolin, those of Tang Lang Quan and those of Ziranmen and the styles Bei Shaolin Changquan, Jiaomen Changquan, Qin Nan, San Cai Jian and Jiao Men among many other things. 

The fusion of these styles gave rise to the contemporary Chang Quan, with its modern routines.

In 1955, he reached second place in the youth category, for children under 20 years old, in a regional competition in the provinces of China.

In that same year, he was appointed disciple in acupuncture, in a "Baishi" ceremony by Dr. Shuen Pei Yon, with whom he had previously dedicated 3 years of theory and 6 months of practice, before practicing this type of traditional Chinese medicine on his own.

In 1959 he studied Qin Nan.

In 1962 he resigned from the police academy to help his father in a new family business, a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, where he performed acupuncture treatments.

In 1966 completing his military service, he returned to the police officers' academy and participated in another competition, this time in Shuanjiao, where he reached second place in the heavyweight category..

In 1979 he withdrew from the police academy when he was invited by Mr. Luís Chang to live in Caracas, Venezuela to contribute and transmit his legacy at the Chinese Martial Arts School "Shaolin Kung-fu The Dance of the Dragon", where they already gave classes Tai She Che (Dai Shi Zhe) Su Yu Chang (Su Yu Zhang) since 1976. This last master retired to found his own school the Pachimen Institute and the master Fu Shun Nan was at this school transmitting his teachings until the year 1991.

In 1984 he held his first "Bashi" or disciple-naming ceremony (Dizimen) where he gave recognition to the Wu-Shu athlete Ramón Manriques, to whom he transmitted practically everything he knows and named him main disciple, among other students, for being the most dedicated and outstanding.

Another highly engaged disciple was Miguel Noya, also a disciple of the same time as Master Ramón.

In 2001 he held the position of chief instructor for the Wushu Association of the Metropolitan District of Caracas.

Master Fu Shung Nan knew and mastered approximately thirty different forms of Chang Quan, jiaomen, Meihuá, Hóng Quan and other systems such as Taiji Quan, Bajiquan and Xing Yi Quan.

His work at the martial arts school "Shaolin Kung-fu La Danza del Dragón" and throughout Venezuela, 

He defends that the martial arts should practice-first for physiology and depois for psychology, they should be in consonance with nature and retitude, and the cavalheiros should be able to fight for personal improvement. 

Yunys

Yunys born in Palmarito, Apure State, Venezuela in 1962. A very small village that lives of agriculture, livestock and fishing. This master comes from a large and humble family.

From a young age, his family sent him to the capital city Caracas to attend high school. At the age of 13, watching a Chinese Kung-Fu movie, also known as Wu-Shu, he felt the curiosity to learn this millennial martial art. As Kung Fu in Venezuela was not well known, he then started his Training in another martial art for a short time, however, realized that this was not what he was looking for, as he was hoping to find the meaning of the message that the movie he had seen had left.

After long searching among the existing martial arts schools in Caracas, he finally found a school with true northern Chinese traditional Kung Fu with Masters, his name "Shaolin Kung Fu Martial Arts School the Dragon Dance" located on Berrizbeitia Street in a Caribbean parish in Paraiso, Quinta Angeluz.

This school had only recently opened, when Yunys entered, a demonstration of Kung Fu / Wu Shu (1976), Mantis, Pachi (Baji), Pakua (Bagua), Shing Yi (Xin Yi), Pikua and Tai Chi Chuan (Taiji Quan) styles was taking place., performed by the masters Tai She Che, Su Yu Chang and 16 more students. The school's director was Luis Chang Fung, whom all generations of athletes at this gym are grateful for their initiative in bringing these great masters. He later joined another school in 1979, called Fu Shun Nan, Shaolin and Shuai Chiao, also known as Shuai Jiao (Asian Fight).

In 1976, he began his training with the great master Tai She Che, with whom he learned the styles Tang Tang Chuen (Praying Mantis), Pachi, Pikua, Pakua, Xin Yi and Tai Chi Chuan.

In 1979 started the classes of Shaolin y Shuai Chiaocom with the great master Fu Shun Nan.

In 1980, after 4 years of intense training, the great master Tai She Che chooses Master Yunys for the second generation of discipleship as one of the highest-level disciples.

From the beginning, he was a national and international competition athlete in this school. In 1986, he reaches the podium where he takes first place at the fifth World Championship, one of the most inspiring goals for athletes who follow him and train kung fu with him. "Traveling with a very small team, along with the great master Fu Shun Nan and leaving as champion was the best experience of my life," he says.

In 1982, he began his career as a coach teaching Kung fu at the school that saw him grow up as a Kung Fu practitioner on the "Shaolin Kung fu the Dragon Dance" martial arts school.

In 1987, he's named president of the Association of Wu-Shu of the Capital District Caracas, Venezuela.

Since 1998 he is a technical advisor to the Colombian Wu-Shu Federation.

Since 2000 he has been a technical advisor to the Antioqueña Football League of Wu-Shu Medellín Colombia.

Moreover, since 2002, he´s the technical advisor and national coach of the Venezuelan Wu-Shu Federation.

He is currently the director of the "Shaolin Kung fu the Dragon Dance" martial arts school (Caracas, Venezuela), technical advisor to the Antioqueña Football League of Medellin, Colombia and "Shaolin Kung Fu the Dragon Dance Medellin Colombia" of the "Shaolin Kung Fu School" Dragon Dance Costa Rica" and "Shaolin Kung Fu School Dragon Dance Argentina", Risoralence Pereira Colombia League Advisor, Advisor to the Shaolin Kung-Fu the Dragon Dance Martial Arts Group at Madeira, Portugal.

Currently master of 7th Dan No. 101 and superior disciple of his martial priest the great master Tai She Che.

Nelson 

Master Nelson came from a humble family. His father is from Porto da Cruz Parish and his mother from Ribeira de Machico, both locations within the Municipality of Machico, Madeira Island, Portugal, marry and immigrate to Venezuela in search of a better life in 1973. In 1974, born in Caracas, Master Nelson as everyone knows him, the Portuguese migratory bird (候鳥 葡萄牙 文, Hòuniǎo Pútáoyá Wén), was a pseudonym that the Great master Fu Shun Nan, one of his martial grandparents, gave him.

Since he was a very active child, his parents wanted to enrol him in some of the sports and fun activities available on Saturdays at the elementary school. Seeing the agility and dexterity of the students who participated in a Kung-Fu class and previously influenced by the popularity of films of this modality, which were broadcast on TV in the 80's, this was the choice of the teacher as a child.

It was in the year 1983, with only 9 years old, that he begins the training of Kung-Fu (Wu-Shu) with the master Orlando Azevedo in his elementary school "La Escuela Básica Experimental Venezuela". After a while training, he's taken by this master to the main headquarters of the "Shaolin Kung Fu The Dragon Dance" School of Chinese Martial Arts, in the urbanization of Paraíso, Caracas, Venezuela.

He and his parents decide to continue training at the main headquarters of the Chinese martial arts school in 1985, where he meets his new master Yunys, his master for life. Initially, Nelson attended only the training sessions on the weekend, which over time became daily, for there was a growing interest in learning. It is there that he participates in his first assessment for the first belts, having as members of the jury table, several masters of the various martial arts schools spread throughout the country, a table that was preceded by the great masters Tai She Che and Fu Shun Nan as main juries themselves. This is how a long journey of dedication and commitment to the passion for this millenary art begins.

Master Nelson devoted himself daily to training and on many occasions participated in more than one daily session with his thirst for learning, never neglecting his academic studies, which he always managed to reconcile. Participates as a federated athlete in competitions, local, national and international. In every competition, that he came to participate he always hit the podium.

In 1994 he gets the black belt and continues his training, with more and more dedication, in the tests he was frequently the most outstanding of the group, along with his colleague Vicente Nieves. That same year, he asks permission from his martial father, Master Yunys, to start his life as a coach at the school where he studied.

He is the Coach of the athletes at the Chinese School of Martial Arts "The Dragon Dance" from 1995 to April 2001 in the Wu-Shu (Kung-Fu) and Tang Tang Quan (Mantis) style.

Since then, he has coached athletes from the Wu-Shu Association of the Capital District, in Wu-Shu (Kung-Fu) style and Tang Lang Quan (Mantis) style. He is also a referee and judge in national and international competitions (South American and Pan American).

In the year 1995, he debuts to compete in the category of black belt, being national champion, firts place in Long Weapon, 2nd place in combat, 2nd place in hands free. The title of national champion was achieved on several occasions until the year 2000, in various modalities and styles, until his parents decide to go to Portugal to invest in Madeira, having achieved great economic stability. In April 2001, he travels to mainland Portugal.

He is hired by the 100 Limites Gymnasium in Ovar, Portugal in April 2001 to teach at Wu-Shu (Kung-Fu), Tai Chi Chuan Yang and Tang Lang Chuen (Mantis) until July 2002, when he decides to go live in Madeira Island. Master Nelson chose Porto da Cruz to live, for it was where his father was born, for its beauty and mysticity, and for the sense of family unity, that has a great weight for him in this decision.

With the support of Casa do Povo, he starts his Wu-Shu (Kung-Fu) classes at Porto da Cruz, and performs coaching and fitness training activities thanks to this institution between July 2002 and November 2013. With this support, he provided classes in Wu-Shu (Kung-Fu), Tang Lang Quan (Praying Mantis), Yang-style Taichi Chuan, San Da-style self-defense and combat techniques to all interested citizens. For free.

In 2007, he participates in the formation of Qi Gong - Health Qi Gong - 9 Seas of Energy. The trainer was the famous master Paulo Araújo, director of the Kung-Fu She-Si Academy in Porto. He is currently also president of the Portuguese Federation of Chinese Martial Arts. The Acupuncture Center of Funchal organizes this workshop.

In 2007, he was hired to teach Tai Chi Chuan at the multinational fitness HOMES PLACE HEALTH CLUBS, position which he held until May 2009.

In July 2009 Master Nelson celebrates his marriage with Idalina. Whenever possible she is by his side in the trainings and events he organizes.

In 2013, after the November thunderstorm that affected Porto da Cruz, the space where he gave classes was affected and so he is unable to continue teaching. The master decides only to train and not to teach because he has no space available and has lost most of his students, waiting for the training site to be recovered.

In October 2016 he receives the invitation of the Porto Association of Cruz Trail Team, Madeira, Portugal, to start the classes again. Where he is the coach of athletes training in Wushu (Kung fu), in the styles of Trang Lang Quan ( Praying mantis), Tai Chi Chuan Yang style, Qi Gong (Chi Kung) classes, self defense techniques, Shuai Chiao (Asian fighting), and San Da style competition combat. In this group, there are some first generation athletes (before the storm) and other new students and it is in Porto da Cruz that these classes are held. As having taught two generations there is a mixed class, children and adults where parents can be close to their children and share training moments in a healthy way.

In 2020 - 2021 the invitation came to teach at the prestigious Santana Health Gym, located in the city of Santana,

In 2022 the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation selected Madeira Island to host the Golden Age Gym Festival 2022 (GAGF 2022), which was co-promoted by the Madeira Gymnastics Association, with the collaboration and organization of the European Gymnastics Federation.

This event took place between the 2nd and the 7th of October 2022 and it is estimated that the participation was around 1700 gymnasts (from about 20 countries).

The GAGF 2022 is part of the gymnastics for all discipline, being aimed at gymnasts over 50 years old.

In order to guarantee the success of the event for all the intervening parties, Master Nelson, black level 5th Dan, was invited to hold a workshop on Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung, which took place on the 4th and 7th of October, at the Santa Catarina Garden, Funchal.

Currently Master is black level 5th Dan, Superior Disciple, No. 13, of the second disciple ceremony of his martial father, Master Yunys, celebrated on November 20, 2019, in Porto da Cruz, Madeira, Portugal.
